Nicole Lim Xuan was recently featured on TODAYonline as one of Singapore’s first ever full-time podcast producer. Nicole hosts Something Private, a new podcast by Our Grandfather Story, a local media company. The podcast discusses issues related to female health and wellness.
Nicole was inspired by American podcasts, including Serial by Sarah Koenig, to kick start her own podcasting career. She appreciates the openness and personal space that the platform offers, said Nicole.
Growing up in a largely female-centric environment, her daily conversations with her female friends revolved around sex and relationships. In April this year, she decided to start Something Private when she realised the inaccessibility of female health information online.
“I wanted to provide a more accessible way for women to get health related content so that prevention for certain illnesses can be done in time,” shared Nicole.
Nicole has fond memories of her time in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. As the President of the Communication and Information Club in 2017, Nicole helped organise events for the student body, including the inaugural College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Day. She was also part of the Going Overseas For Advanced Reporting team in 2018.
“Every single semester in WKWSCI allowed me to take away something and there was a continuous growth for me in school,” shared Nicole.
Nicole’s current plan is to continue growing her podcast.
“I hope that people realise this is an up-and-coming digital format and that they will be daring to explore and jump on this bandwagon too,” said Nicole.
