From assuming the role of a rookie reporter in Hedwig Alfred’s News Writing and Reporting class as a freshman to being part of the GO-FAR team in her fourth year, Liu Kai Ying holds memories of her Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information experience close to her heart.
Now, she is the editor of EatBook SG, a sister site of TheSmartLocal (TSL) that covers food reviews and trends. Starting out as a three-member team, Liu and her colleagues had to handle everything from the writing of the stories to food photography. As their team grows, she continues to promote its publicity on social media platforms like Facebook.
Liu had previously worked for CLEO before shifting from print to digital.
“I made the move when I realised I couldn't even remember the last time I bought a print magazine,” Liu said.
The most challenging part about going digital was the new speed at which she had to create content.
“At Eatbook, we only get about one to two days to work on an article, so we have to think fast, write fast, and make sure we publish our work before another food site does,” she said.
