Linda Lee (CS’04) may have graduated from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information more than a decade ago, but she still fondly remembers her time there as a student.
“I met some of my closest friends from school. To me, WKWSCI is the place we started our own community – where there is trust, ideas, and opportunities to help one another,” she said.
As the head of communications for LinkedIn, Lee leverages on her 15 years of marketing experience to help the company stay relevant and connected with its audience. She does so by conceptualising and creating communication campaigns that tell the stories of the LinkedIn community.
Given the ever-changing landscape of the media industry, the nature of Lee’s work has changed in terms of how she structures news content.
“Audiences want to read and hear about real, human stories. Now, we have to think of content beyond hard news such as surveys and statistics, to blog articles,” she said.
As such, Lee believes that having a strong understanding of what counts for news, and having the skills needed for newswriting, is vital.
She added: “Whether you are a writer, journalist, or communications professional, always challenge yourself. Ask yourself — will this story impact and affect people’s lives?”
