Radio has always meant something special to Kong Tin Jun. To him, being a radio presenter allows him to be a positive influence to others as “he can build relationships with every listener.”
Crowned champion of last year’s Hey DJ Talent Search Competition, Tin Jun has been offered to job shadow at YES 93.3 this year.
The career path of being a DJ was inspired by his father, who is a Hong Kong-based TV host and sports commentator.
As an undergraduate in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, he explored different specialisation tracks. He shot a documentary that was selected for a few film festivals and went to Shanghai as an editorial intern for Time Out Shanghai.
After graduating in 2018, Tin Jun accepted a communications role in the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore. Tin Jun’s current role involves planning and executing initiatives to encourage adoption of good cyber hygiene. His most successful public engagement project thus far is the Cyber Savvy Machine Pop-up.
Tin Jun is currently preparing for a final radio test in November. Once qualified, he will be given the opportunity to host weekend shows on YES 93.3 on a regular basis.
Recalling how WKWSCI has helped him in his career, he shared: “WKWSCI has taught me how to think out of the box, embrace challenges and be a good problem solver.”
