Amelia Chia (CS’09) has been working in the field of journalism for almost 10 years. She is currently the acting editor-in-chief at Buro 24/7, where she was previously the deputy editor. Right out of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Chia worked as a writer for August Man and Harper’s BAZAAR.
“Admittedly, it's not a high-paying industry, but I'm doing something I love daily and I don't dread going to work one bit. For me, that's priceless.” Said Chia.
Some of her most memorable experiences include interviewing big names like Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron, and flying to New York for various event launches. Her current role as acting editor-in-chief requires her to lead a team of 10 writers at Buro 24/7 Singapore.
“My role definitely keeps me on my toes, and having to inspire, encourage and lead the team to greater heights makes me proud of what I do daily,” said Chia.
Chia said her education at WKWSCI has helped her hone several skill sets that proved useful when she entered the field. Some of her most memorable classes include Hedwig Alfred’s newswriting module and Andrew Duffy’s magazine reporting course, which taught her how to write “quickly, succinctly, and to the point.”
