Since it first launched in 2016, video-sharing platform TikTok has shot to success, accumulating a billion active users worldwide — with more than one million from Singapore.
Though more associated with youths, TikTok has amassed users of varying ages: about a quarter of them are between the ages of 25 to 44. A number of global brands have capitalised on the platform to appeal to their target audiences.
One of these brands is Singapore’s Pizza Hut.
Earlier this year, Gerald Tan and his teammates Shannon Tiong, Nicolette Wee, Lim Bi Hui and Brina Li (all CS’ 23) pitched their idea for a web series in the CS4029: Advertising Copywriting and Creativity module run by Lecturer Gautam Kiyawat. They were then hired to produce the web series for Pizza Hut’s TikTok account this April.
The series marked Pizza Hut’s launch on the platform.
Premiered in July, the 29-episode web series, ”Your Slice of Simple” was meant to promote Pizza Hut’s seasonal Cheesy 7 flavour.
Since the web series was launched, the Pizza Hut TikTok page has gained more than 252k likes and 44k followers as of writing.
The web series uses a point-of-view filming technique to introduce Sarah and Sam, childhood best friends who undergo the messy ups and downs that come with growing up and young love.
So what challenges did the team face during production? And what is the team’s take on TikTok as a leading social media platform? Find out more with “Your Slice of TikTok”.
